Gary Theodore Wagner was born on July 5, 1962, in Ankara, Turkey, to German parents — Wolfgang von Wagner, a medical doctor, and Helene Wagner, a pediatric nurse. Gary's early years were shaped by the diverse cultural environments of Turkey before he moved to Richmond, Virginia, at the age of 14 with his family. There, he completed his high school education before pursuing higher studies at Texas State University, graduating with double majors in Biology and Biochemistry.

Gary furthered his expertise by completing a Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology, followed by a Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Biotechnology from the University of Dallas, Texas, in 1981.

Professional Career

With over four decades of experience, Gary has built a distinguished career as a biotechnologist. His career began in the public sector, where he worked with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Virginia Department of Forestry between 1982 and 1996.

In 1997, Gary transitioned to a private consulting role, founding VirgoTech, where he has served clients ever since. His consulting practice focuses on specialized and cutting-edge biotechnological solutions across various sectors, including agricultural, industrial, and marine biotechnology.

Gary was married to Charlene Grace Wagner from 1992 until her passing in 2022. Beyond his professional life, Gary has been actively involved in charitable work, with a particular focus on child health and animal welfare, demonstrating his deep commitment to making a positive impact in his community.
